WATERMELON SLUSH. #drink
I truly love the idea of utilizing a formula you know fills in as a springboard for making new formulas and renditions of something. For me, that is the best time some portion of cooking!
What's more, that is actually what happened while making this child inviting Watermelon Slush, in view of my Watermelon Rum Slush formula ... which was recently founded on my Watermelon-Moscato Slush formula. It just snowballed from that unique slush to make two all the more absolutely delectable adaptations!
Furthermore, would you like to know why this child benevolent variant occurred?
Since when our 7-year-old Little Miss H. saw me making Watermelon Rum Slush and was let it know was for adults just, there was no chance she would have been let alone for the watermelon fun. Nope, wasn't going to occur. It couldn't be any more obvious, Little Miss H. completely wants to attempt new nourishments, tasting pretty much anything at any rate once to know and experience what's it resembles. Furthermore, when I'm in the kitchen making formulas, she's generally directly there remaining on her little stool with me ... getting spoons out of the cabinet to taste every fixing and the outcomes at all times.
So it'll shock no one, I'm certain, that the main words out of her mouth when I revealed to her the rum slush was for adults just were, "Yet I need to attempt a few!"
So I did what any Mom of a lovable, daring eating 7-year-old would do ... also, explored different avenues regarding her to make her own special child agreeable, no-liquor bunch.
Ingredients :
- 6 c. watermelon cubes, seeds removed*
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar
- 1 T. freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 7-Up or Sprite for serving
Directions :
- Place watermelon cubes in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth. Place a strainer over a large bowl or 9x13-inch glass baking dish. Pour processed watermelon through the strainer to remove the pulp, reserving the strained juice.
- Stir granulated sugar and lemon juice into the watermelon juice until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Place the bowl or baking dish in the freezer and freeze the mixture for 2 to 3 hours, stirring with a fork every 45 minutes or so to break up ice crystals.
- When ready to serve, scrape the watermelon slush with a large spoon to create “shavings.” Spoon slush shavings into a glass, filling the glass about 3/4 full. Pour in a little 7-Up or Sprite and stir. Garnish as desired.
* Six cups watermelon cubes, pureed and strained, yields about 4 cups watermelon juice. You can use watermelon juice released and collected when cutting up a whole watermelon instead, for all or part of the pureed juice.
